Rapper Takeoff, who was a third member of the group Migos along with Quavo and Offset, has passed away. The 28-year-old rapper, whose true name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, was shot and killed while playing dice with Quavo at a bowling alley in Houston around 2:30 in the morning.
At the scene, Takeoff was determined to be deceased. Two further visitors were shot on the property and sent to the hospital. Quavo escaped injury.
In 1994, Takeoff was conceived in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 2008, he started rapping alongside Quavo and Offset, who were his uncle and cousin, as the group Polo Club. The group's debut mixtape as Migos, Juug Season, was released in 2011.
"As a child, I tried to succeed in the music industry. In 2017, Takeoff stated to The Fader, "I was grinding, which was exactly what I enjoyed doing. "Just developing something for myself... I was enjoying it for myself because it was what I enjoyed doing. I would wait for Quavo to return from football practice before playing him one of my tunes.
Versace, the group Migos' first widely popular track, was released in 2013. The song was important for popularizing the triplet flow, which is Migos' trademark rapid-fire cadence, inside current rap. Drake, a Toronto rapper, later remixed the song, and the three members of the trio would go on to work together frequently.
The 2016 Lil Uzi Vert collaboration by Migos is their most well-known work.
