Today (Thursday), the five disgruntled governors of the People's Democratic Party will gather in London, United Kingdom, under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State.
Remember that Wike, Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue recently resigned from the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, requesting that Iyorchia Ayu, the party's national chairman, steps down.
In spite of having purportedly agreed to run with the governor of Rivers State on a combined ticket after losing to Atiku in the primary election, Atiku Abubakar chose the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate, which has angered Wike.
In order to make decisions in advance of the 2023 election, Wike, Makinde, and Ortom met in London in September.
It was discovered that the most recent meeting may have been influenced by the party and Atiku's decision on Monday to launch the campaign without Wike and his friends.
There has been little progress in bringing Atiku and Wike's allies together thus far. Adolphus Wabara, the acting chairman of the party's board of trustees, formed a reconciliation committee to address the ongoing problem, but it hasn't been successful in mediating a resolution as planned.
Wike has promised to stay in the party but has also said that unless Ayu steps down, he won't be involved in the presidential campaigns.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was reportedly described by the PDP as being "dazed" by Atiku's thunderous introduction at the wildly successful flag-off of the presidential campaign in Uyo.
The party insisted that Tinubu has lost his sense of direction to the point where he is unable to speak or participate in any coherent political conversation.
By way of a statement released on Wednesday by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP's spokesperson, insisted that the APC's presidential nominee lacks substance as evidenced by his recent comments disparaging other political parties.
In the meantime, Kola Ologbondiyan, the spokesperson for the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign, has offered Nigerians hope that the suffering and pain they are now going through under the ruling All Progressives Congress will end once Atiku wins the 2023 election.
Ologbondiyan mentioned a Wednesday encounter with some PDP youths in Abuja.
He emphasized that the PDP and its presidential candidate were concerned about the sorrows and pains that the APC had caused citizens during the previous seven years.
According to him, only Atiku Abubakar has a workable plan for eradicating the suffering, hunger, starvation, economic troubles, diminished purchasing power, and sense of helplessness that the APC administration has inflicted upon Nigerians.
